Dr. ​Julie Hlavacek-Larrondo

Julie Hlavacek-Larrondo is a Canada Research Chair and an associate professor of physics at the Université de Montréal. 

She is an internationally renowned expert on the most massive black holes in the Universe. After completing her bachelor's and master's degrees at the Université de Montréal, she obtained a Ph.D. in astronomy at the University of Cambridge in 2012, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University as a NASA Einstein Fellow. 

Her work has led to more than 60 papers and 6 press releases in the last 6 years alone, new fields of research and over 60 invitations to speak at institutions and conferences. She has also received a dozen awards, prizes, fellowships and grants which directly testify to her leadership skills, the innovative nature of her work and the impact her actions are having within and outside of academia. 

She is also co-founder of Parité sciences, an ambitious campaign aiming to close the gender gap in physics, computer sciences and mathematics across the province of Quebec.
