William Pye
Children:
Of Maryland, Barbados and Newfoundland.
- Was impressed as a seaman from the docks in Barbados
- forced to serve as crew of the Salem Privateer Junius Brutus
(20 guns, 110 men).
- Sailed from Virginia Oct 31, 1780 and captured by British after a sea
battle.
- Ship sailed as a prize to St. John's, Nfld. in Oct 1782.
- William imprisoned in Newfoundland for the duration of the war.
- When released as POW, met and married Blanche Pye, daughter of
John Pye (Carbonear, Nfld.). Large family.
- Sailed with fishing and sealing fleets, settled in Newfoundland.
- Spend summers on Labrador Coast.
